John Goerzen's Homepage
My email address is email@example.com.
I live out on an old farmstead in rural Kansas that once belonged to my grandparents. The nearest paved road is about 3 miles away, and the nearest town (population 600) is 7 miles away. I have two incredible boys, which I might occasionally mention on my blog.
My hobby and profession involves programming and system administration. I have released many programs as Free Software, which you are welcome to download, examine, and share. I am a developer for the Debian GNU/Linux operating system, and have been since the late 1990s. I've written some books about programming and operating systems.
I'm an IT development manager at a mid-sized manufacturing company in Kansas. I've led or implemented projects to implement VOIP internally using Asterisk, upgrade our network and server infrastructure, establish multiple electronic links with business partners, and develop web interfaces for our customers' use.
Some of my other hobbies include:
Amateur radio. Using only my own radios and antennas, with no infrastructure in between, I can talk to people across the country. I also use a portable radio when traveling.
- Bicycling. I ride about 10 miles each way to/from work.
Programming in Haskell
- Restoring old typewriters
I'm a developer for the Debian GNU/Linux operating system
I'm chair of the Board of Trustees of the Mennonite Bethesda Society, the non-profit owner/operator of Bethesda Home
Author of dozens of Free Software programs and libraries
I volunteer in emergencies and disasters with the Amateur Radio Emergency Service. I helped out in the aftermath of the EF5 tornado in Joplin, MO in 2011.
