John Goerzen's Homepage
My email address is jgoerzen@complete.org.
I live out on an old farmstead in rural Kansas that once belonged to my grandparents. The nearest paved road is about 3 miles away, and the nearest town (population 600) is 7 miles away. I have two incredible boys, which I might occasionally mention on my blog.
Professional Activities
My hobby and profession involves programming and system administration. I have released many programs as Free Software, which you are welcome to download, examine, and share. I am a developer for the Debian GNU/Linux operating system, and have been since the late 1990s. I've written some books about programming and operating systems.
I'm VP of IT and Engineering for eFolder, a cloud backup and disaster recovery company. My team and I keep our datacenters running.
Other Hobbies
Some of my other hobbies include:
Amateur radio. Using only my own radios and antennas, with no infrastructure in between, I can talk to people across the country. I also use a portable radio when traveling.
- Bicycling. I ride about 10 miles each way to/from work.
- Philosophy
- History
Programming in Haskell
- Restoring old typewriters
